GovDelivery Publishes Digital-by-Default Brief

Titled "Getting Government Online," Brief Expands on Expert Perspectives From Recent Livechat

LONDON, May 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GovDelivery, a leader in cloud-based public sector communication solutions, announced today availability of its new brief titled "Getting Government Online: How to Engage Citizens." The brief reviews key perspectives from a panel of experts recently hosted by the Guardian that discussed getting government online. The recent livechat highlighted the important issues government organisations face when trying to address customer needs through digital channels and the "digital-by-default" agenda.

The Guardian livechat panel included government communication experts from Futuregov, Deloitte, GovDelivery and the Society of Information Technology Management (SOCITM), and focused on the current digital landscape by identifying both the gaps that need to be filled and where organisations are excelling. The brief reviews the examples provided by the panellists of successful digital-by-default programmes and goes on to discuss what's on the digital-by-default horizon for U.K. government. It also highlights key components for a digital-by-default agenda, touching on the significant potential savings of transitioning to digital and self-service models, as well as the challenges government organisations must navigate in this process, from data security to maintaining quality customer service while still achieving organisational goals.

"It was great to be part of such an interesting and valuable discussion around how best to get government online," said Dave Worsell, Executive Director, GovDelivery Europe. "The greatest benefit of implementing a successful digital strategy is meeting the needs of the public. By putting people first, government organisations can build digital systems that address real-world concerns. The brief showcases both local and central government organisations that exemplify excellence in digital communication practices and highlights how focusing on digital outreach and public engagement can help meet channel shift initiatives and ultimately drive mission success."
