Regions Bank Announces 32 Recipients of Riding Forward Scholarship

RF

Regions Bank (NYSE:RF) has named the 32 winners of its 2014 Regions Riding Forward® Scholarship Essay Contest, which provides college scholarships to high school seniors and college students. To enter, eligible high school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors submitted an essay about an African-American individual who inspired them.

The scholarship contest is the centerpiece of Regions’ efforts to honor Black History Month throughout its footprint. Each year, Regions chooses one high school student to receive a $5,000 scholarship and one college student to receive a $2,500 scholarship from each of the 16 states it serves, awarding 32 scholarships total. Since 2012, Regions has awarded $365,000 in scholarships to 89 high school and college students.

“At Regions, our mission is to make life better for the communities we serve. We are thrilled to not only recognize the achievements of these 32 hardworking students, but also to honor the great African-American men and women who have been their inspiration,” said Michele Elrod, head of Regions Marketing. “We are proud to have assisted nearly 90 students in receiving a college education through the Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest and look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish.”

“Riding Forward Scholarships are one example of how Regions lives out our commitment to do well by doing good,” said Lajuana Bradford, head of Regions Corporate Social Responsibility. “Providing opportunities for young people to further their education is an investment that benefits families and communities and creates ripple effects that build a stronger economic foundation and opportunities in the future.”
