CHICAGO, June 3, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MSDSonline, the leader in online environmental health and safety solutions, today announced that it has made its highly rated OSHA Recordkeeping webinar available as a free, on-demand broadcast on its EH&S Blog. To help companies of all sizes navigate compliance around the reporting of workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities, the 40 minute presentation includes recent and upcoming changes to the Recordkeeping Standard, a refresher on Recordkeeping basics (e.g. filling out forms 300, 301, 300A), and an interactive quiz to test understanding.
"Significant changes are coming to the Recordkeeping Standard that will affect businesses large and small," said P.J. Schoeny, MSDSonline Product Manager for Incident Management. "Larger companies, with 250+ employees, will likely move to a quarterly, electronic reporting obligation, while every business will see changes to their responsibilities based on revisions around hospitalizations and amputations."
According to OSHA, U.S. employers in recent years averaged more than 3 million on-the-job injuries and illnesses and over 4,000 workplace fatalities, with compensation costs to the employers exceeding $50 billion. Many of the changes OSHA is implementing will provide better information to the agency, and in a more timely fashion, so that it can more effectively coordinate inspection activities.
The webinar can be accessed at http://www.msdsonline.com/blog/webinars/. Another topic touched on in the presentation is OSHA's push toward an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (I2P2), which seeks to have employers switch their focus from recording injuries and illnesses to proactively identifying and fixing workplace hazards.
"Fundamentally, MSDSonline agrees with OSHA that the best way to reduce workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities is to track near misses and implement hazard controls before incidents take place. That is why our Incident Management solution not only streamlines the filling out of OSHA Recordkeeping forms, but is also equipped to communicate corrective actions and provide valuable reporting and analysis tools to improve workplace safety overall," said Schoeny.
