Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Awarded $1.0 Million Order for Infrastructure Equipment to Support Satellite Mobile Backhaul Network in Africa

CMTL

June 3, 2014-- Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ:CMTL) announced today that, in April 2014, its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., was awarded a $1.0 million order for infrastructure equipment. A Mobile Network Operator (MNO) in Africa will utilize the equipment to support a satellite mobile backhaul network. The order specified the combination of the new CDM-625A Advanced Satellite Modem and indoor frequency converters.

The latest entrant to the award-winning family of satellite modems, the CDM-625A builds on Comtech EF Data’s legacy of high-performance and unrivaled spectral efficiency. The CDM-625A platform provides the same multi-dimensional optimization and advanced functionality as the company’s flagship CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem. It supports VersaFEC® and Low Density Parity Check forward error correction, DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression and the IP Packet Processor with advanced QoS and compression. Additionally, the CDM-625A takes spectral efficiency to the next level by offering more filter rolloffs, including 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 35%. The additional rolloffs will further reduce the required satellite bandwidth, thereby reducing operating expenses associated with satellite communications.

Several indoor frequency converter models were ordered, including, the UT Series Up Converters, the DT Series Down Converters and the MBT-5000 Up/Down Converter System. The Up and Down Converters are the ultimate in high-performance and cost-effective C-, X-, Ku- and L-Band frequency conversion. The converters can be used for SCPC, DAMA and TDMA. The MBT-5000 provides frequency conversion between L-Band IF and C-/X-/Ku-Band RF frequencies. Featuring a drop down front panel providing access to two hot swappable modules, the system offers a mix of conversion functionality or 1:1 redundant system operation.

“There are more MNOs relying on Comtech EF Data equipment to power their satellite-based infrastructure than any other provider,” commented Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. “Our award-winning and patented technologies provide unrivaled spectral efficiencies and optimization to enable operators to fully leverage satellite capacity.”
