Senior Leaders Convene in Tampa to Experience the Future of Healthcare at MediFuture

MMC

Hundreds of senior leaders from a range of industries will convene in Tampa for MediFuture, an exclusive invitation-only event showcasing the future of a rapidly transforming healthcare system. Held on September 16-18, 2014 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina, MediFuture will present a new view of healthcare that is patient-centered, consumer-driven, and value-based.

Leading experts predict that over the next decade, over $1 trillion in healthcare spend will migrate to new players, new industry segments, and traditional companies that are delivering on value. At MediFuture, participants will have an opportunity to hear from those on the front lines of the evolving market, explore experiential exhibits that bring the new business models to life, tour local organizations that have already embraced the patient-centered care mission, and identify new partnerships with a diverse set of innovators.

MediFuture, produced by the Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Center (OWHIC) and the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation (EDC), is a collaboration between two unique organizations that seek to accelerate the pace of transformation in healthcare, while expanding the growing community of industry leaders committed to creating “Health Market 2.0,” the future, value-based marketplace.

“The U.S. healthcare system is on the verge of an inevitable transformation,” said Rick Homans, President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough EDC. “As a patient-centered, consumer-driven healthcare market takes shape, the emerging industry will create huge opportunities for companies that rise to the challenge.”

The Tampa Hillsborough EDC launched the inaugural MediFuture event on May 13, 2013 as a half-day, regional conference that focused on disruptive innovation in healthcare. The event, which showcased local innovation that is helping shift the community toward a patient-centered healthcare system, generated national media attention and interest from across the country. As a result, the Tampa Hillsborough EDC has partnered with the Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Center for the 2014 gathering, leveraging the Center’s deep knowledge of the health space and well-developed vision for the future.

OWHIC has earned acclaim since its inception in 2011 for the detail, force and depth of its vision for the future of healthcare. It was founded on the belief that the healthcare industry will be redesigned from the consumer’s perspective, with an unrelenting focus on driving improved health outcomes and cost containment. Drawing on the expertise of the Health and Life Sciences practice group of Oliver Wyman, a leading global management consultancy, plus the collective experience of the Center’s community of senior health industry experts, decision-makers and thought-leaders, OWHIC develops market-based solutions to unlock value and reset expectations on what is possible.

“We envision MediFuture to be a catalyst for accelerating the value migration that is already occurring, by bringing together the most influential market leaders and illustrating what is possible,” said Tom Main, Partner and U.S. Market Leader for Oliver Wyman’s Health and Life Sciences Practice and Managing Director of OWHIC. “Attendees will experience today's most progressive models that are paving the path to the future, and learn from the visionaries that created them.”

OWHIC will lead the content development of the conference agenda for MediFuture, which is based on its pioneering healthcare manifesto, “Volume-to-Value.” Conference sessions will feature world-class thought leaders in health and wellness who are driving market transformation. The lineup of speakers, which is expected to develop further as the conference approaches, will include:

Dan Buettner, author of the New York Times bestseller “Blue Zones” and a visionary in building healthy communities

Rushika Fernandopulle, MD, MPP, co-founder and CEO of Iora Health and a pioneer in reinventing the primary care model

Patrick Geraghty, Chairman and CEO of Florida Blue and a trailblazer in using entrepreneurial strategies to transform health insurance

Marty Makary, MD, author of “Unaccountable,” surgical director for Johns Hopkins, and an outspoken proponent of healthcare transparency

Craig Samitt, MD, President and CEO of HealthCare Partners and a veteran of patient-centered population health management

David Schlanger, CEO of WebMD, and a leader in empowering decision-making and motivating positive action

Adrian Slywotzky, author of several best-selling books including “The Profit Zone” and “Demand,” and an established expert in industry disruption and business model innovation

MediFuture is supported by Laser Spine Institute, Moffitt Cancer Center, USF Health and the Florida High Tech Corridor, Florida Blue, Florida Hospital, River Crossing Group, SunTrust, Bright House Networks Enterprise Solutions, Regions, Tampa General Hospital, the Tampa Bay Partnership, University of Tampa, Visit Tampa Bay, Tampa International Airport, DPR Construction, LegalJourney Law Firm, BayCare, Lions Eye Institute, Ultramatics, and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
