Comtech EF Data Leveraging Leadership in SCPC Modem Market to Address Premium Enterprise Requirements

CMTL

Comtech EF Data Corp. announced today that it was once again named the largest Single Channel per Carrier (SCPC) satellite modem supplier in the COMSYS VSAT Report, 13th Edition.

The recently published report identifies that the Comtech EF Data solution suite is utilized by the majority of the top 160 VSAT operators globally. Comtech remains the largest preferred supplier for mainstream corporate applications and its satellite modems continue to dominate the market for cellular backhaul links. Citing the Company’s recent major wins from Globecomm and from Harris CapRock Communications with its new Advanced VSAT solution suite, the report also states that Comtech EF Data now has an established foothold in the oil & gas and maritime premium enterprise market.

The report explains that the introduction of its Advanced VSAT Solution suite has allowed Comtech EF Data to build a managed network value proposition on top of its industry-leading SCPC systems. The solution suite offers operators a scalable shared hub platform which can start small, easily support a full range of network topologies, and incorporates the most advanced transmission technologies available today at both ends of a circuit. To best support the design, rollout and operation of today’s complex premium enterprise networks, Comtech EF Data has developed an experienced team of engineers to provide the necessary technical support to optimize performance and cost.

“Comtech has a reputation for building reliable and highly bandwidth-efficient hardware,” said Simon Bull, Senior Consultant for COMSYS. “One of the reasons Comtech EF Data has been so successful in the cellular backhaul market has been its cutting-edge coding and modulation techniques that provide the best bits/hertz ratios possible, and these have become the foundation of the value proposition behind its Advanced VSAT Solution suite, targeting the premium enterprise market.”

Due to high satellite capacity costs and constant price pressures, permanently assigned bandwidth is often not the ideal solution regardless of how efficient a link might be. As stated in the report, Comtech timed the entry of the Advanced VSAT almost perfectly. An integrated system able to dynamically allocate SCPC channels to a cost-effective modem with the capability to process throughput rates of up to 160 Mbps, bi-directionally, became an attractive option. These features coupled with the system’s ability to support multi-transponder operation and cross-strapped or cross-banded capacity positioned Comtech EF Data to recently win significant projects for the supply of integrated network solutions.

“We leveraged our patented technologies and the ultimate in throughput, efficiency, flexibility and reliability into our managed network solutions suite,” commented Steve Good, Vice President, Marketing for Comtech EF Data. “We have built upon our leadership position in modems and RF equipment and have placed significant focus on satellite network design and operation within our purpose-built, future-looking Advanced VSAT Solution suite. This includes placing more focus on network management, platform upgrade paths and ongoing support to ensure that a premium enterprise’s satellite network is running optimally. We greatly appreciate COMSYS’ recognition of our significant contribution to the industry along with our vision of the future of the satellite networking market.”

The VSAT Report is known as the definitive study on the satellite industry enabling telecommunication and IT managers, existing and prospective system operators, manufacturers and integrators to stay competitive and increase profitability. The comprehensive study involved interviews with and about over 300 different service providers with individual reports on more than 160 VSAT operators and over 30 different product platforms from all the major vendors.
