GovDelivery U.K. Publishes Digital Communication Success Stories From Leading Public Sector Organisations

Local Government Organisations From Across the U.K. Share Best Practices for Driving Mission Results

LONDON, July 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GovDelivery, the leader in cloud-based public sector communication solutions, published today a series of case studies illustrating the success of three government organisations. While these government entities are very different organisations spanning diverse geographies, they all share the common result of successfully leveraging digital communications to increase channel shift and ultimately impact mission results.

Representing a wide spectrum of local governments across the country, these success stories share best practices for reaching large online audiences and improving government communications in a timely, cost-effective manner:

  • Bolton Council chose GovDelivery's cloud-based digital communications platform to support its goal of driving cost savings through channel shift. Bolton looked to digital communications to not only achieve the cost savings associated with channel shift, but also to better serve the local community by providing up-to-date, relevant news, events and council services information. The GovDelivery Network has allowed Bolton to cross-promote sign-up topics with other public sector organisations to gain more subscribers, and the council now reaches more than 21,000 people through the platform. Bolton measures its digital communications success by reviewing growing message engagement and has seen large spikes in website traffic corresponding with communications delivered via GovDelivery.
  • Digital communication enables Derbyshire County Council (DCC) to connect with residents across its boroughs. In overseeing a very rural area, DCC had a key challenge in reaching residents quickly in times of emergency and delivering other time-sensitive news. DCC's available communication tools at the time consisted primarily of a website and a number of printed publications that were expensive, time-consuming and reached only a small portion of residents. The council implemented the GovDelivery platform to launch its digital communications strategy and now reaches more than 46,000 people with information on a variety of topics. By leveraging previous email lists, direct sign-ups placed on all DCC's digital properties, and the GovDelivery Network, the council has seen an 87% increase in subscribers in the last 12 months and finally has the reporting and analytics to easily see how well their outreach efforts are performing.
  • Nottinghamshire County Council implemented GovDelivery to improve citizen satisfaction with council services as well as support its channel shift goals. With more than 100 different logos and a plethora of communication leaflets, the council knew it needed to regain control of its brand and present a more consistent, sustainable and effective identity to its stakeholders. By consolidating its marketing efforts under one logo and email marketing system, the council was able to focus on a more targeted marketing approach. The council has reduced its marketing spend by £900,000 since centralising the communications function. During the same time frame, Nottinghamshire County Council increased citizen satisfaction by nearly 30 percent and leveraged the GovDelivery Network to significantly increase the number of stakeholders who sign up to receive communications from the council.
"These recent success stories continue to demonstrate that effective citizen engagement is critical to meeting channel shift goals and achieving mission results for government organisations", said Dave Worsell, Executive Director, GovDelivery Europe. "We're happy to share the remarkable successes these innovators have reported, because the lessons learned can only help other government organisations understand how to leverage digital communications technology to connect with more people and then get those people to act. Our clients continue to prove that when agencies focus on digital outreach and public engagement, they're able to meet channel shift initiatives and ultimately drive mission success".
