Huron Consulting Group Inc. (NASDAQ: HURN), a leading provider of
business consulting services, today announced that the Company has made
a strategic investment in Shorelight Holdings LLC, parent company of
Shorelight Education. Shorelight is the only U.S.-based company that is
solely focused on partnering with leading nonprofit universities to
increase access and retention of international students, boost
institutional growth, and enhance an institution’s global footprint.
Shorelight Education’s current partnerships with leading higher
education institutions are centered around “Academic Accelerator
Programs.” These pathway programs combine English preparation, cultural
transition and challenging freshman-level courses to provide
academically qualified international students with a supportive
foundation for their first year on-campus experience. Upon successful
completion of an Academic Accelerator Program, students matriculate to
the university with sophomore status, enabling them to earn an
undergraduate degree in four years.
“The Shorelight offering enables universities to expand their global
participation by attracting more international students, increase the
diversity of the student population, and fulfill their academic mission
while providing new revenue opportunities,” said James
H. Roth, chief executive officer and president, Huron
Consulting Group. “Our Shorelight investment enables Huron to
provide strategic synergies to our higher
education clients as they face economic and competitive pressure to
manage costs and enhance the quality of academic offerings. We are
excited about the synergistic prospects given that Shorelight’s primary
market focus has significant overlap with Huron’s existing client base.”
Tom
Dretler, chief executive officer and co-founder of Shorelight
Education, said, “Huron is an ideal strategic partner for Shorelight
based on its deep understanding of the business and mission of higher
education institutions. Our partnership will benefit all major
stakeholders on campus and create new university resources that can be
used to drive innovation. There is nobody better than Huron to help
advise universities on where best to invest those new assets to make a
real difference for students and the broader university community.”
As a result of working with Shorelight Education, universities are able
to enhance the social and academic experience for domestic students and
add to the perspectives and cultural experience of the international
students.
Huron will participate on the board of directors of Shorelight Holdings
LLC. Other terms were not disclosed.
