Supporting educational workshops for children in Latin America and other regions
Tokyo, July 14, 2014 - (JCN Newswire) - As an official FIFA partner, Sony Corporation ("Sony") is engaged in "Dream Goal 2014", a special CSR program in conjunction with the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. To date, the program has made a number of key achievements outlined below, and will continue to offer learning experiences to children through football related workshops even after the tournament is over.
Street Football Stadium Project
In partnership with streetfootballworld gGmbH, Sony is providing a total of 25 easy-to-build portable football stadiums ("stadiums") to children in Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru using funds from Sony Group companies and monetary donations from our customers and employees. Three of these stadiums have been set up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where streetfootballworld and local NGOs are running programs for children to learn the importance of leadership and gender equality through a game of football. Using the funds, Sony will continue to support these efforts for a period of one year after the FIFA World Cup with a total of more than 30,000 children expected to participate in such workshops.
Additionally, the call for designs and drawings to decorate the panels of the stadiums through Sony's football portal site "One Stadium" has attracted over 3,500 submissions from around the world. Some of the remaining 22 stadiums will be painted with these artworks and are scheduled to be delivered to local NGOs this September.
Led by FIFA and Sony, this program provides media skills training workshops to young community leaders using media equipment such as digital cameras provided by Sony. These efforts will continue on through April 2015, spanning 11 countries in Latin America, Africa and other regions.
As part of this program, from the end of May until July 4, FIFA and Sony also co-hosted a photo contest on Sony's football portal site "One Stadium", offering young people from 14 organisations the opportunity to submit photos under the theme "Football and your community", and the chance to win a Sony α3000 interchangeable lens digital camera. Attracting 17,556 votes from around the world, the following work has been selected as the winner of the contest.
Winner of the contest: Marvelous Chunkwu, Search and Groom (Nigeria)
By bringing together the power of Sony's products, technologies, innovation and employees, Sony will continue to engage in various efforts to support children around the world and help shape a better, more sustainable community under its CSR philosophy "For the Next Generation."
