CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW -- UTC Aerospace Systems' Aerostructures business is now offering its Prime Solutions® customizable suite of nacelle maintenance services to operators of all variants of the Airbus A350 XWB. The Aerostructures business headquartered in Chula Vista, California, received the contract from Airbus in 2005 to design and manufacture major components of the nacelle system for the Rolls-Royce Trent engines that power the new fuel-efficient twinjet. Those nacelle system components include the fan cowls, thrust reverser and exhaust system; they are the largest that the Aerostructures business has ever designed, built and supported in service. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
UTC Aerospace Systems – Aerostructures has been working closely with operators in preparation of the Airbus A350 XWB entry into service scheduled for the fourth quarter this year. Prime Solutions offers nacelle maintenance management programs that are custom designed to fit each operator's needs. Services can include rotable assets as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the entire life cycle of an operator's fleet on a power-by-the-hour basis.
"As the original equipment manufacturer, Aerostructures is uniquely positioned to service the A350 XWB nacelle systems because of our ready access to the complete OEM engineering data," said Aerostructures President Marc Duvall. "In addition, our million square feet of global MRO shop space provide operators the proximity and flexibility for all their nacelle MRO needs."
Because of its size, the Airbus A350 XWB nacelle system presents logistics challenges, making transportation difficult and expensive. By storing rotable components and spares in its global locations, Aerostructures can help operators reduce or avoid potential shipping costs. Prime Solutions also enables an airline customer to shift the maintenance responsibility on nacelle components to UTC Aerospace Systems for whatever period they choose.
Aerostructures has been promoting nacelle management programs for 15 years and currently supports more than a thousand aircraft worldwide. Prime Solutions customers include LATAM, British Airways, UPS, Qatar, Iberia and Delta. Last year alone, the Aerostructures business shipped more than 140,000 components and assets in distinctive, Prime Solutions purple boxes and crates.
