TORONTO, July 30, 2014 /CNW/ - The National Steering Committee on
Financial Literacy announced today by federal Minister of State
(Finance), Kevin Sorensen, marks another important step in expanding
the financial education and literacy agenda in Canada.
"We appreciate Minister Sorensen's leadership in bringing together a
broad and seasoned range of perspectives to improve financial education
and literacy in Canada", said Linda MacKay, Senior Vice President -
Retail Savings and Investing, TD Bank Group. "The Steering Committee
brings together experience from the public and private sectors that can
provide thought leadership and advice about programs that work, and
areas where there is more to be done."
TD has long been an advocate of greater financial literacy, helping to
fund groups such as Junior Achievement and the "Money Matters" program
run by ABC Life Literacy, both of which offer TD employees the
opportunity to get personally involved in financial literacy. TD has
also partnered with Prosper Canada (formerly Social and Enterprise
Development Innovations, SEDI) to create the Canadian Centre for
Financial Literacy, as well as funding the TD Financial Literacy Grant
Fund, which provided funding for community-based groups to deliver
financial literacy programs across Canada.
"The National Steering Committee announced today will ensure that there
continues to be an effective and collaborative approach as the public
and private sectors continue to expand this important work", said
MacKay.
