Jackie Sheppard, Chair of Emera Inc. (TSX:EMA), today announced the
appointment of two new members to Emera’s Board of Directors.
Henry E. Demone, Chief Executive Officer of High Liner Foods, Lunenburg,
Nova Scotia and J. Wayne Leonard, former Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of Entergy Corporation, New Orleans, Louisiana, will join the
Emera Inc. Board of Directors effective September 25, 2014.
Mr. Demone has been CEO of High Liner Foods since 1992. Under his
leadership, the company transitioned from a regional fishing and
processing operation to a leading supplier of frozen seafood in North
America. Since assuming the role of CEO, Mr. Demone has led High Liner
Foods to significant financial growth and consistent increases in the
company’s market capitalization and share price.
In 1998, after two decades in the US energy industry, Mr. Leonard joined
Entergy Corporation, an integrated electrical utility company focused on
power production and retail distribution. He became CEO of Entergy in
1999. Until his retirement in 2013, Mr. Leonard led Entergy in becoming
one of the first US utilities to voluntarily reduce emissions, making
the company one of the least coal-dependent utilities across the
country. Mr. Leonard is also credited with restructuring the business,
making it the successful utility it is today.
“Both Henry and Wayne are recognized business leaders with proven track
records,” said Ms. Sheppard. “They are forward-thinkers who have
transformed their respective businesses and created significant
shareholder value. I’m delighted they’ll be joining our Board.”
Mr. Demone holds a Bachelor of Science from Acadia University. He
currently sits on the Board of Saputo Inc. and is past-Chair of the
Fisheries Council of Canada and the Groundfish Forum, a global trade
association representing leading companies in the industry. He has
served on the Boards of Dover Industries Ltd. and Maritime Tel &Tel
(Aliant). Mr. Demone was the first non-US citizen to be named Chair of
the National Fisheries Institute, a US national trade association. His
extensive experience in strategic planning, global markets, mergers and
acquisitions, make Mr. Demone a significant asset to Emera’s Board of
Directors.
Mr. Leonard holds a Bachelor of Science from Ball State University and
an MBA from Indiana University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in
the State of Indiana. He is a former Board member of the Centre for
Climate and Energy Solutions and currently serves on the Boards of the
Edison Electric Institute and Tidewater Inc. With his considerable
experience in regulated and non-regulated utilities and capital markets,
Mr. Leonard is a valuable addition to the Emera Board.
