Twenty-five volunteers from Baltimore
Gas and Electric Company (BGE) teamed up with the Maryland SPCA
today for a Day of Service, caring for animals, cleaning the facility,
and helping the organization prepare for its annual Wine and Wag
fundraising event. The fundraiser will support the ongoing care of the
pets at the adoption center.

BGE also presented the Maryland SPCA with a $5,000 Green Grant, part of
the company’s initiative to support environmental stewardship and
education. The grant will fund a new walking trail that will be
developed in the fall, part of a three-year plan to renovate the
property. The trails will wind around the campus’ three main buildings
and along the trees that border the area. The trail will be used by
employees and volunteers as they care for the animals at the facility.
“We are very thankful to BGE employees for spending the day at our
adoption center to help the homeless and abandoned pets and to BGE for
their very generous donation in support of our dog-walking trails,” said
Aileen Gabbey, executive director of the Maryland SPCA. “We’re not
affiliated with the ASPCA, and we don’t receive any government support,
so our partnership with BGE is very important in our mission to improve
the lives of pets and people in our community.”
“The day of service was a great way to extend our support for one of our
Green Grant recipients, for a cause that inspires a lot of passion in
our employees,” said Valencia McClure, BGE’s director of communications
and corporate relations. “We are always pleased to join in with
organizations that share our commitment to making a positive impact on
the environment in central Maryland.”
