STRATHMORE, AB, Aug. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - On Saturday, August 30 five-time Olympic medalist and women's hockey hero Hayley Wickenheiser will visit Strathmore and spend the day with the community. Hayley will be at the Canadian Tire Strathmore store to celebrate the success of the Jumpstart Red Ball campaign, an annual month-long fundraising initiative that helps kids across Canada get off the sidelines and into the game.
During the month of May, Canadian Tire stores across Canada participated in a friendly competition to collect the most $2 donations in exchange for a Jumpstart Red Ball and Canadian Tire Strathmore was one of the top stores, giving away 7,036 balls. Jumpstart is a national charity that gives kids from financially disadvantaged families the opportunity to participate in organized sports and physical activities by assisting with costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation. All funds raised go directly towards Jumpstart, and one hundred per cent of donations made in Strathmore will go to help kids in Strathmore.
