Vitesse
Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: VTSS), a leading provider of
advanced IC solutions for Carrier, Enterprise and Internet
of Things (IoT) networks, announced that Vubiq Networks is
using Vitesse’s CEServices™
software, Serval-Lite™ VSC7416
Carrier Ethernet switch engine, and VSC8574
Gigabit Ethernet PHY for Vubiq Networks’ latest generation 60GHz
millimeter wave wireless system targeted at wireless fiber
extension and 4G / LTE backhaul applications.
Industry experts expect the unlicensed 60GHz band to add significantly
more capacity to 4G LTE and LTE-Advanced networks, easing
overcrowding on the 2.5GHz and 5GHz public bands used today for Wi-Fi.
Compared to the latter two, the 60GHz frequency is largely uncongested
and is approved for use throughout the US, Europe and much of Asia.
According to 4G Americas, mobile user data utilization could rise from
the current 15MB of mobile data daily to 1GB per day by 2020, making use
of spectrum alternatives imperative for service providers to meet the
mobile broadband demand.
“Wireless links need to integrate quality of service, security, traffic
management and other enhanced network functionality for carriers to
effectively deliver services to their customers,” said Mike Pettus,
Vubiq Networks chief technology officer and co-founder. “We were looking
for carrier-class technologies incorporating advanced service-aware
networking features. Working with Vitesse gave us access to their unique
service-aware Ethernet switch architecture, helping us to quickly
commercialize a solution meeting service provider needs.”
“Easy service provisioning and management are critical for carriers. To
support this, mobile networks require far more intelligence at the
network edge to handle the bandwidth-hungry applications that consumers
routinely demand,” said Larry O’Connell, product marketing director at
Vitesse. “Vitesse’s Service-Aware Architecture, or ViSAA™, integrates
that intelligence into access and edge network equipment, enabling MEF
CE 2.0-compliant solutions that readily support wireless network
demands.”
