CANTON, Mass., Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- LoJack Corporation (NASDAQ: LOJN), a provider of vehicle recovery and advanced fleet management solutions, announced today that former Albuquerque Police Detective Matthew Morales has joined the company's Law Enforcement Liaison team covering the New Mexico area. With more than 18 years in law enforcement, specializing in vehicle theft, Morales will provide an added level of support and expertise to local New Mexico police departments that use the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System.
"Matthew was an instrumental asset in paving the way for LoJack to expand its technology and relationships within New Mexico earlier this year," said Patrick Clancy, Vice President of the LoJack Law Enforcement Department. "We've made tremendous strides in the area, and we will look to Matthew to continue to build upon this program to better protect the property of New Mexico citizens."
According to a report issued by the FBI earlier this year, nearly half of vehicles stolen are not returned to the rightful owners, resulting in millions of dollars in assets lost by vehicle owners. Matthew's expertise with investigating motor vehicle thefts for more than decade will provide local law enforcement agencies with an invaluable resource in the campaign against auto theft.
Morales will be responsible for professional training, providing equipment to additional police vehicles, and advising law enforcement agencies throughout New Mexico. He joins a team of law enforcement liaisons with decades of experience in the field. Through relationships with law enforcement agencies around the country, LoJack provides stolen vehicle recovery units that allow police departments to recover missing vehicles equipped with a LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System.
"I am honored and excited to bring my vehicle theft recovery experience to the LoJack team," said Morales. "I have worked on thousands of vehicle theft cases over the course of my 18-year career in the Albuquerque Police Department, and established many great relationships within law enforcement in New Mexico; I look forward to continuing to serve New Mexico in my new position at LoJack."
Prior to his career in law enforcement Morales served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves. In 1996 he graduated from the Albuquerque Police Academy and was assigned to the Patrol Division. There, Morales served in various patrol assignments, which included walking foot beats and bicycle patrol. After being promoted to detective, he was assigned as Crime Scene Investigator and served on the Meth Lab Call-Out Team. In 2003, Morales was assigned as a detective with the Auto Theft Team; he excelled at this assignment, becoming known throughout the state for his knowledge and expertise. In addition to his success as a detective and acting supervisor for the Auto Theft Unit, he has achieved considerable success and renown as an instructor in various aspects of auto theft investigations, not only in Albuquerque but throughout the state and the region. Morales has testified as an expert auto theft witness in court, and before the New Mexico state legislature.
Morales is a member of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators, an Associate member of the International Association of Special Investigations Units and has worked closely with numerous local and national organizations.
