Hudson Technologies (NASDAQ:HDSN) applauds the recent White House
announcement regarding new private sector commitments and executive
actions to reduce emissions of hydroflourocarbons (HFCs). The
announcement was made on Tuesday, September 16 at a White House event
where John Podesta, Counselor to President Barack Obama; Gina McCarthy,
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator; Dr. Ernest
Moniz, U.S. Secretary of Energy; and Todd Stern, U.S. Special Envoy for
Climate Change detailed the administration's continued commitment to
slow the effects of climate change through executive actions in support
of reducing HFC emissions.
Additionally, the EPA announced three new actions that will “support a
smooth transition to climate friendly alternatives to HFCs” including,
identifying refrigerant management options to reduce HFC emissions from
air conditioning and refrigerant equipment. Hudson is a leader in
reclamation, which the Company views as an essential component to
responsible refrigerant management.
The White House specifically addressed engaging stakeholders on
Refrigerant Management Regulations, stating, “EPA received a petition
from the Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy to create
consistent refrigerant management regulations by applying the same rules
that already exist for ozone-depleting refrigerants to HFCs. EPA
recognizes that refrigerant management is an important way to reduce
climate-damaging emissions from equipment used for air-conditioning and
refrigeration, and will engage with stakeholders as it explores options
for addressing the petition.”
Kevin Zugibe, Chairman and CEO of Hudson Technologies, stated, “This is
a significant development for our industry, reiterating the commitment
of the Administration and private industry to take aggressive steps to
slow climate change through the reuse and reclamation of HFCs. We are
currently in the midst of a phase out of R-22, and these commitments and
executive actions look beyond R-22 to next generation HFCs. Hudson has
long been a supporter of the phase down of global warming gases. We
believe reclamation is the cornerstone to responsible refrigerant
management and we offer responsible solutions as, over time, systems are
converted to the next generation products. We currently reclaim HFCs and
have the capabilities to reclaim the next generation products so we are
positioned to be a key player in supporting an orderly phase out as this
evolves.”
