JOHNS CREEK, GA--(Marketwired - Sep 19, 2014) - Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAIA) honored its employees and celebrated the company's 90th anniversary this week with festivities at all of its 150 facilities. A time capsule was also buried in the company's birthplace, Houma, La.
"This is a landmark day for us as we gather to celebrate the company's anniversary where it all began," said Saia President and CEO Rick O'Dell during ceremonies yesterday in Houma, La.
On hand for the milestone event were Saia executives, employees working at the company's Houma office, and several special guests including Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet, who spoke to attendees, as well as Katherine Gilbert-Theriot of the Terrebonne Parish Economic Development Authority and members of the Terrebonne Parish Council.
"Employees from each Saia terminal and office were asked to send in items for inclusion in the time capsule that were representative of their facility, its employees, their communities and this moment in time," explained Saia Vice President of Marketing and Customer Service Sally Buchholz. Employees sent in numerous items -- everything from hockey pucks to DVDS, newspapers, t-shirts, photos of Saia employees and terminals, uniforms, cell phones, and more.
Other facilities around Saia's network honored employees with a luncheon and the longest-tenured employees at each terminal and office received a crystal award thanking them for their dedication and service. Saia has over 300 individuals who've been with the company 25 years or longer. Eight employees have been with the company for over 40 years.
"What does it take to sustain a company for 90 years?" asked O'Dell. "People...specifically, Saia's employees... all 8,500 of them. Our employees are the backbone of our company. They define our culture -- a culture that nurtures collaboration, trust and respect. We, at Saia, are deeply proud of our company."
