October 2, 2014--Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ:CMTL)
announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF
Data Corp., received $1.7 million in satellite communications equipment
orders. A systems integrator in Asia ordered the equipment to support
the expansion of an existing satellite-based network infrastructure
based upon Comtech EF Data products.
The orders specified high-speed and mid-range satellite modems,
including the new CDM-625A
Advanced Satellite Modem along with the CDM-625, CDM-700, DMD50 and
DMD20 modems. This array of field-proven modems provides unrivaled
performance teamed with the reliability required by the most demanding
users around the world. This follow-on order was based upon past
performance and product reliability of the many Comtech EF Data products
this systems integrator has leveraged over several years to expand its
business and meet the stringent demands of its end customers.
The mid-range CDM-625A and CDM-625 modems enable the cost-effective
rollout of enhanced services that allows an operator to increase its
subscriber base while minimizing subscriber churn. The CDM-625A
leverages the multi-dimensional traffic optimization required to most
intelligently and efficiently utilize space segment resources, which is
key with both traditional and High Throughput Satellite (HTS) spacecraft
designs. The feature set of Comtech EF Data’s high-speed satellite modem
family, including the CDM-700, enables an operator to utilize low-cost,
high-speed satellite-based trunking links to complement terrestrial
connections. This mix of satellite and terrestrial links result in the
most resilient and reliable hybrid solution possible, thereby allowing
an operator to provide best service levels possible with the highest
uptime.
Examples of integrated features ordered that provide trusted reliability
while minimizing overall network CAPEX and OPEX are DoubleTalk®
Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression, a Quad E1
Interface with Enhanced Drop & Insert capability along with a
combination of highly powerful coding methods, namely Low Density Parity
Check and Turbo Product Codes. Featuring a vast range of data rates and
interfaces, support for both L-Band or 70/140 MHz connections and
configurations for use on single or multiple transponders, the array of
modems procured provide the flexibility needed to support both upgraded
and legacy hub and remote terrestrial environments.
To complement the modems, also ordered were SFC4200A and SFC1275A
Synthesized Frequency Converters along with the SEU-100 Signal Excision
Unit. The high-performance converters feature redundancy, low phase
noise and flexible options for monitor and control. The SEU-100
significantly enhances the performance of geolocation systems, improving
location accuracy and enabling emitters to be successfully located in
many situations where geolocation without signal excision is not
possible.
“Comtech offers an assortment of products suited for different
applications and operating environments,” commented Fred Kornberg,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications
Corp. “These follow-on orders are acknowledgment of the confidence in
Comtech to support mission-critical communications today and into the
future.”
