Tokyo, Oct 3, 2014 - (JCN Newswire) - The Toyota Youth Orchestra Camp (TYOC), jointly held by Toyota Motor Corporation and the Federation of Japan Amateur Orchestras Corporation (JAO), will be held in Okinawa, Japan for the first time, running from March 26 to 29, 2015 at the Tedako Hall in Urasoe City.
The camp has run as a four-day study program since 1985 to cultivate and train young musicians from across Japan. The annual camp operates on a two-year cycle, and in the second year, participants form the Japan Youth Symphony Orchestra and give a special public concert on the final day of the camp to showcase the results of their efforts.
One of the notable characteristics of this camp is the fact that planning, preparation, and operation of the learning process is independently carried out by an operating committee consisting of participating young members. Young musicians from across Japan aim to take the skills and know-how learned through performance, instruction and lectures back to their orchestras and become leaders in regional music activities.
To date, the camp has been host to more than 5,000 pupils, with many past participants now active in regional orchestras.
The 31st TYOC will invite Masahiko Enkoji (Resident Conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra) as conductor and 17 professional musicians, including some from the NHK Symphony Orchestra, as instructors. Under their guidance, the participating young musicians will practice Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5 and other works.
On March 28, the instructors of the 31st TYOC will hold two community contribution programs: the Toyota Musical Instrument Friends Conference, which provides musical instruction to Okinawan children studying various musical instruments, and a free pre-concert for people in the surrounding communities.
