Canada's Luckiest Student Contest is Back Bigger than Ever
CIBC and Student Life Network look to change a student's life in the country's largest contest, with prizes totalling over $75,000
Toronto, ON / TNW-ACCESSWIRE / The cost of tuition soars for Canadian students every year. According to a recent CIBC poll done by Leger, 73% of graduates are expecting to graduate with a debt of more than $10,000, including some 40% that feel they will owe over $25,000-plus by the time they don their mortarboard.
One lucky student will have less to worry about.
Student Life Network and CIBC are back with the third instalment of Canada's largest contest for high school, college and university students. Canada's Luckiest Student is an unprecedented contest thoughtfully designed to reduce the stress of being a student. Each prize is designed to either lessen financial barriers, relieve student stress or to assist with student life. Being a student is stressful enough; the ultimate student grand prize will take away some of those worries.
The grand prize of a $20,000 GIC from CIBC will help cover school costs. Free groceries for a year will take care of grumbling bellies. Free tuition for a year explains itself. Free textbooks for a student and a friend of their choice alleviates another significant cost for students. And a trip to Peru for two is the ultimate study break. But that's only the tip of the proverbial iceberg with over a dozen prizes that will be unveiled over the course of the contest, ending on December 31, 2014.
Launched on August 1, more than 66,000 students have already entered Canada's Luckiest Student to date. With this growth, Student Life Network is expecting to have 250,000 students join. Unlike other contests, Canada's Luckiest Student engages with its participants daily. Students earn extra entries by completing actions throughout the contest or by unearthing vouchers that are hidden across Student Life Network's social media channels. The more extra entries a student gets, the better their odds of being crowned Canada's Luckiest Student.
Leah Meanwell, the winner of Canada's Luckiest Student 2, won a $20,000 GIC from CIBC, free tuition for a year, a trip to Thailand and more.
"It's an overwhelming feeling, having the chance to finish my degree debt-free thanks to the prize money," says Meanwell. "Winning Canada's Luckiest Student contest means I can focus on my schoolwork, instead of how to afford my degree, and that's something I'm very grateful for."
"We want to change the lives of students for the better. And we love doing it," says T.J. Donnelly, President and CEO of Student Life Network. "That's why we make it fun for students to participate in Canada's Luckiest Student even if they don't win."
Leading brands like CIBC, Dell, Fido and Geckos Adventures are eager to partner with Student Life Network to both give back and engage with students in a meaningful way. To offer prizes that makes student life easier while showcasing their product and driving social actions is a win-win-win.
"CIBC is proud to once again partner with the Student Life Network to find Canada's Luckiest Student," said Rob Assimakopoulos, Senior Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer, CIBC. "CIBC has made it a core priority to play an active role in helping Canadians achieve their full potential. Building on that, we are thrilled to extend our support into this innovative program for Canadian students by helping the lucky winner pay for their education, while having the opportunity to win a host of other prizes."
