To launch this weekend’s big event, every night this week people in the
city can see “OPEN HOUSE” spelled out in the skyscraper’s windows. The
lights announce the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s “Open House
Chicago 2014.”
Open House Chicago offers a chance to discover the city’s hidden
treasures, secrets and surprises. On October 18 and 19, guests are
invited to go inside and explore more than 150 special sites—for
free—during the weekend event.
“We are proud to sponsor this important Chicago event for the third
consecutive year,” said Donald G. Southwell, Kemper’s Chairman,
President and Chief Executive Officer. “We applaud The Chicago
Architecture Foundation for their work to promote our city’s spectacular
sites.”
Event sites include uncommonly seen and “restricted access” areas of
public buildings, factories, historic mansions, private clubs, sacred
spaces, schools and cultural institutions, among others. Each site
offers unique features and attractions. In 2013, more than 40,000 guests
made more than 142,000 visits to 150 sites throughout Chicago.
For only the third time in more than 40 years, Kemper is opening its
360-degree penthouse observatory of The Kemper Building for the weekend
event, offering stunning downtown views of some of Chicago’s finest
architecture.
