The St. Joe Company Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Marks the Opening of New Watersound Trail in Origins Community

JOE

5-Mile active lifestyle trail connects with Panama City Beach Conservation Park

Northwest Florida’s leading resort and residential community developer, The St. Joe Company, today announces the grand opening of the Watersound Trail. The 5-mile trail spans between Walton and Bay County with its trailhead located adjacent to Watersound Origins’ Village Commons. The Watersound Trail winds through St. Joe’s timberlands, and connects with Gayle’s Trails in the Panama City Beach Conservation Park. The Gayle’s Trails system, named in recognition of Panama City Beach Mayor Gayle F. Oberst, is a comprehensive trail system that the City of Panama City Beach plans to span from Walton County to Hathaway Bridge with a connection North to Pine Log Forest. There are currently approximately 13 miles of paved trail open to the public. The Watersound Trail grand opening is another step in the pursuit of the City’s goal to have the Gayle’s Trails system span approximately 30 miles throughout Panama City Beach.

The Watersound Trail will officially open with a ribbon cutting event at 9:15 am, Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Watersound Origins trailhead located at 530 Pathways Drive, Watersound, Florida 32413 in Watersound Origins, the newest of St. Joe’s award-winning communities.

“The St. Joe Company is proud to build communities that promote healthy, active lifestyles,” said Jorge Gonzalez, Sr. Vice President of Development for The St. Joe Company. “The trailhead is accessible in the Origins community and is open to all members of the public for walking, jogging or bicycling. The trail incorporates mile markers and educational signage and even has a rest area at the midpoint.”

As part of the grand opening of the new trail, The St. Joe Company is hosting a Wellness Fair with complimentary activities for the first 50 attendees, including flu shots, hearing screenings and mobile blood donations. Participants can also sign up to win t-shirts and other giveaways.

In addition, The St. Joe Community Foundation has committed to making a financial donation on behalf of everyone who participates in the opening weekend. “In recognition of the Watersound Trail grand opening, The St. Joe Community Foundation will be making a donation to the Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle and the Bay County Audubon Society on behalf of everyone that rides or walks the trail on opening weekend,” said Janet Greeno, Executive Director of The St. Joe Community Foundation
