The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU), a leader in global payment
services, has launched international and domestic money transfer
services at over 90 Food City locations.
Customers of the Food City grocery chain—headquartered in Abingdon,
Virginia, with locations in Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky—can access
Western Union Money Transfer®, money order, and bill payment
services conveniently, with operating hours starting as early as 6 a.m.
and extending to 11 p.m.
“Our growing relationship with Food City helps us expand our reach to
customers and continue providing them with the money transfer services
they have come to expect from our company,” said Carter Hunt, Senior
Vice President and General Manager, Western Union, United States.
“We want to make it easy for consumers to move money wherever and
whenever they need to. Our collaboration with Food City in these three
states supports our network expansion strategy of operating in the
communities in which our customers live and work,” he said.
The collaboration is part of Western Union’s efforts to strengthen its
independent retail network presence across the United States as well as
Food City’s ongoing mission to provide the best products and services to
its communities. Privately-owned independent retailers represent single
stores or small chains and offer a wide inventory of international and
local goods. They are popular for their ease of access, familiarity,
personable and efficient service and well rooted in local communities.
Western Union’s retail network across the United States has exceeded
50,000 Agent locations and represents multiple classes of trade,
including independent retailers, supermarkets, check cashiers,
convenience stores and banks, among others.
“Food City is proud to work with Western Union to offer these services
to our loyal customers. In today’s mobile society, with family members
living in different geographies, this is a great way to easily and
reliably transfer funds,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City
President and Chief Executive Officer.
