GE Transportation (NYSE: GE), a global provider of innovative rail
products and services, today announced the release of its latest RailConnect™
360 software enhancement for rail shippers, ShipperConnect™
Demurrage Management, a cloud-based software solution that improves
railcar demurrage billing accuracy.
ShipperConnect
Demurrage Management simplifies the demurrage billing process, allowing
shippers to internally manage their demurrage, storage and detention
records. It does this by capturing railcar events and dynamically
calculating tariff rules, making immediate adjustments to demurrage
payments. Demurrage Management improves productivity by eliminating
manual data collection and processing. It also reduces demurrage
liability by removing tariff interruption and missed exceptions.
“Managing demurrage costs can be an onerous task for shippers,” said
Nanette Efird, ShipperConnect senior product manager. “Acquiring
Demurrage Management Solutions Inc. enabled GE Transportation to
strengthen the ShipperConnect portfolio by integrating DMS Tracker™
technology. We’re excited about how our integrated offerings empower
shippers to streamline their rail operations to improve efficiencies and
overall throughput within the rail supply chain.”
One customer – a leading North American frac sand producer – achieved
measurable results by using ShipperConnect Demurrage Management. Using
Demurrage Management and other ShipperConnect software, this customer
successfully filled the gap between placement and fulfillment by
improving inventory visibility of their rail fleet, reducing demurrage
invoicing by 75 percent and demurrage costs by 40 percent.
ShipperConnect Demurrage Management is part of a connected suite of
software solutions called RailConnect 360. RailConnect 360 provides
railroads and rail shippers with data-driven insights to improve the
reliability and availability of their assets and to optimize their
operations and reduce life cycle costs. It is a customizable and
connected enterprise solution that impacts the entire rail supply chain.
