Waste Management of Texas Issued the Following Statement Regarding the Settlement Agreement Reached Today Amongst McGinnis Industrial Maintenance Corp., Harris County and the State of Texas Regarding the San Jacinto Waste Pits Lawsuit

WM

To avoid further costs of litigation, we are pleased to see the case by Harris County and the State of Texas against McGinnis Industrial Maintenance Corp. (MIMC) resolved with a $29.2M settlement. The settlement also dismisses the State and County’s claims against Waste Management of Texas, Inc.

This is a legacy issue, dating back to the 1960’s, from a Waste Management of Texas subsidiary – MIMC – and is several generations removed from Waste Management Inc. Before the trial, the Court quite appropriately removed Waste Management Inc. from the case. Waste Management Inc. previously accrued for substantially all of the $29.2M.

We remain focused on the remediation of the site and maintain our active participation in the very structured and well-defined EPA process, established to evaluate and determine the appropriate remedy for the site.
