Postmedia Network Inc. (“Postmedia”) today announced the launch of its
latest reimagined brand – the Calgary Herald. From its look and feel to
its form and function, four entirely new and distinct products greet
Calgarians today. Featuring innovative and fully-differentiated products
across its four platforms: print, web, tablet and smartphone, the new
Calgary Herald leverages 131 years of proud heritage with a bold
approach to the design and delivery of news and information.
“As our reimagined strategy rolls out across the country, we continue to
hone our offerings to audiences and advertisers,” said Wayne Parrish,
Postmedia’s Chief Operating Officer. “In Calgary, we have teamed up with
Nissan to bring the new Calgary Herald tablet app to readers, free for
the next three months.”
The reimagined Calgary Herald features a newly designed newspaper,
responsive design website, new smartphone app for iOS and Android and a
new weekday news and current affairs magazine app for the tablet
available through Apple Newsstand, ready for readers to download
weekdays at 6 p.m.
“The new Calgary Herald offers four new and distinct products each with
different content, for different audiences, on different platforms, at
different times of the day,” said Lorne Motley, Editor Calgary Herald.
“For many years, we have been offering readers what is essentially the
same information on all of our platforms. We are now tailoring
information to what our audiences have told us they’re interested in
reading based on how they access the Herald.”
The Calgary Herald’s redesigned masthead combines a contemporary version
of the nameplate with an abstract representation of the Rocky Mountains.
Rendered in shades of blue, reflecting the vast Alberta sky, it is a
modern version of the historic Calgary Herald blue logo of the past. The
modern iconic images reinforce our connection to the city and unify our
print and digital platforms.
Readers can download the new smartphone app directly from iTunes or
Google Play for Android, and the new 6 p.m. evening news and current
affairs magazine is available from Apple Newsstand.
