On December 3, 2014, several media outlets reported that a whistleblower
lawsuit was filed against the Company in New Jersey by former Sanofi

Viehbacher and other executives were involved in a scheme, in violation
of federal law, that saw tens of millions of dollars funneled from the
Company in kickbacks and other incentives to the get the Company’s
diabetes drugs prescribed and sold. The suit claims that the scheme
occurred “over the course of many years” and was partly the cause of
Viehbacher’s ouster. The suit also alleges that Ponte was fired in
retaliation for bringing the scheme to light.
