Regions Bank Offers Scholarships to High School Seniors and College Students in Honor of Black History Month

RF

In honor of Black History Month, Regions Bank is offering the Regions Riding Forward® Scholarship Essay Contest to high school seniors and college students.

“The Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest, now in its fourth year, provides scholarship opportunities for students while honoring and celebrating the contributions of African-Americans. This program is a reflection of Regions’ commitment to education, diversity and inclusion,” said Michele Elrod, head of Regions Marketing. “After all the scholarships have been awarded in 2015, more than $500,000 in scholarships will have been given to high school and college students since the program began in 2012.”

The Regions Riding Forward® Scholarship Essay Contest is based on the submission of a competitive essay about an inspirational African-American. High school seniors may apply for a $5,000 scholarship while college freshmen, sophomores and juniors may apply for a $3,500 scholarship. To enter, applicants write a 500-word essay about how an African-American has inspired and motivated him or her.

“Through their essays, students can shine a light on any African-American who has made a difference in their lives, whether it is someone famous, a family member, or a mentor from the local community,” said Lajuana Bradford, head of Regions Corporate Social Responsibility. “Dozens of students who have participated in the Regions Riding Forward program are furthering their education at colleges and universities across the country. As a company, we are honored to support their education while also paying tribute to African-Americans who have made significant contributions to our society.”

Entries will be accepted Jan. 19 through Feb. 26. Contest Official Rules and complete entry details and eligibility requirements are available on the campaign’s website, www.regions.com/ridingforward.

Regions will select one high school senior winner and one college student winner from each of the 16 states with Regions Bank branches for a total of 32 winners. Winners will be chosen in April, and scholarships will be awarded in July.

The Regions Riding Forward® Scholarship Essay Contest is part of the bank’s larger Black History Month celebration. In addition to the scholarship program, Regions is continuing to offer a unique online learning module about African-American history, “306: African-American History™,” in select high schools in markets served by the company. The online module was developed by EverFi.
