Turkcell’s (NYSE:TKC) (BIST:TCELL) fully-owned subsidiary Turkcell
Superonline has announced that it is partnering with Telekom Austria
Group to deploy an MPLS PoP in Istanbul. Turkcell Superonline’s data
centers and infrastructure began to host Telekom Austria Group’s MPLS
PoP in January. The interconnection that will connect this MPLS PoP and
the servers to the rest of the world has been established, and will
support an 8 Tbps capacity in total with 100 Gbps technology.
This cooperation enables Turkcell Superonline to further improve its
corporate offerings, meeting Turkish businesses’ demand for a greater
variation of connectivity. Through Telekom Austria Group’s global
network, Turkcell Superonline’s corporate customers will have direct
access to their international offices. Telekom Austria Group’s global
customers will also benefit from this partnership, enjoying faster and
better connectivity with their offices in Turkey.
Istanbul becomes an emerging node of global data traffic
The agreement between Turkcell Superonline and Telekom Austria Group
amplifies Istanbul’s role as an emerging node of data traffic on the
global scene. Emre Erdem, Deputy General Manager for Operator
Relations and Wholesale at Turkcell Superonline, underlined
Turkcell Superonline’s goal of putting Istanbul on the map as a global
center of the internet. “The introduction of global players to the
Turkish market promotes growth as customers enjoy a greater variety of
choices. With this agreement, Telekom Austria Group becomes accessible
to our customers in Turkey, while Turkey joins Telekom Austria Group’s
strong global network. We will continue to partner with leading
companies of the global telecommunications world that are willing to
invest in Turkey” said Erdem.
“Over the past few years, Telekom Austria Group Wholesale has developed
into a Pan-European carrier. I’m therefore particularly delighted to be
able to announce the further expansion of our footprint at the very
start of this new business year. With the new PoP in Istanbul, we are
laying the foundations for the worldwide connections of our customers”,
said Stefan Amon, Director Wholesale at the Telekom Austria Group.
