Charitable grants will benefit programs for local, underserved K-12 students

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) kicked off the 5th annual Inspiring Future Leaders initiative, a $1 million charitable giving campaign, at San Diego's Downtown Library. The initiative provides grants to local non-profit organizations that focus on developing youth leaders through mentoring; leadership and character development; college and workforce preparation; and, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs for underserved K-12 students.

"We are proud to support our local non-profit community partners that play such a critical role in helping develop our next generation of leaders," said Frank Urtasun, regional vice president of external relations for SDG&E. "These non-profits have a tremendous, positive impact in our communities every day, and our goal is to support their programs that inspire our youth to do great things."

Non-profit organizations have until March 19 to apply for initiative grants at sdge.com/community. Through a competitive request-for-proposal process, the initiative will award grants up to $25,000 for individual organizations and up to $50,000 for collaborative projects to selected non-profit organizations that provide leadership programs for underserved K-12 students.
