The New York Times Launches City Guide/New York, a Chinese-Language Print Publication for Chinese Travelers Bound for the U.S.

NYT

The New York Times today launched a Chinese-language print publication, City Guide/New York (cn.nytguide.com), with global distribution of 210,000 copies.

The first issue, Winter 2014/2015, was published on Dec. 1 and was distributed to travel agencies, hotels and airport lounges in Asia that cater to Chinese travelers bound for the United States as well as to hotels in New York City that have a substantial Chinese clientele. The Guide will also occasionally be inserted in the New York edition of The World Journal, the largest circulation Chinese-language daily in the United States.

The Guide, in Simplified Chinese, features some of The New York Times’s best New York-focused content to help introduce Chinese readers to the best that the city has to offer.

The Guide expands upon The Times’s Chinese-language operations, which includes a Chinese-language online edition of the Times, cn.nytimes.com.

“China is now the largest source of outbound tourism in the world and the U.S. is the top destination for Chinese tourists after Asia. Meanwhile, New York City is the top destination in the U.S. for Chinese tourists,” said Craig S. Smith, The Times’s managing director for China and publisher of the Guide. “This Guide gives Chinese tourists the opportunity to experience New York’s most notable, unique destinations from an insider’s perspective; one that you can only get from The New York Times.”

City Guide/New York will be published in April, September and December to coincide with the main travel seasons for Chinese tourists, will carry features on the city's latest restaurants, fashion, shopping and real estate trends, as well as a look into corners of the city a traveler might otherwise miss. It will include listings of the highest quality retailers in the city, together with maps to help Chinese readers find their way.

The print Guide is also accessible online through a responsive website, cn.nytguide.com.
