EAST HARTFORD, Conn., April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney's PurePower engine family has completed more than 16,000 hours and 31,000 cycles of full engine testing, including 3,500 hours of flight time. The data includes flight testing information from eight aircraft with PurePower Geared Turbofan™ (GTF) engines. The PW1100G-JM engine is the only engine flying on the Airbus A320neo aircraft, with two aircraft flying, and the PW1500G engine is powering flights on six Bombardier CSeries planes. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.
"Our PurePower Geared Turbofan engine is the most advanced engine certified today. It is flying and meeting or exceeding technical expectations and customer commitments, an early preview of the significant value these engines are expected to provide customers following entry into service," said Greg Gernhardt, president, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines. "Our PurePower engine technology equals pure profit for airlines and this is only the beginning."
The GTF engine's architecture will save millions of dollars in fuel expenses and maintenance costs year after year. Demand for the GTF engine stands at more than 6,300 orders, including options, to date with 60 customers from 30 countries.
"This is an incredible time for us. This year our PW1200G engine will power the Mitsubishi Regional Jet on its first flight, our PW1400G engine for Irkut will complete testing and receive certification, and our PW1900G engine for Embraer's EJet E-2 will initiate its flight test program," said Gernhardt. "Today we are on the brink of another bright chapter in Pratt & Whitney's 90-year history of providing dependable engines."
