TORONTO, April 9, 2015 /CNW/ - Discovery puts the power tools in viewers' hands as the network revealed today an innovative component to its new Canadian series BLOOD, SWEAT & TOOLS, premiering Monday, April 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. In a do-it-yourself (DIY) television first, viewers will be deeply integrated into the on-screen action by voting LIVE during the season finale to decide which of the program's five inept home renovating couples will be declared "Most Improved", and take home the $50,000 cash prize. And while the five teams compete during the first eight weeks of the series, all handyman wannabee viewers can increase their influence by earning additional votes while showing off their own renovation expertise and experience the TV challenges and trivia themselves on the dedicated BLOOD SWEAT & TOOLS online platform, The Gamebench.

Votes can be cast immediately following the broadcast of the penultimate episode on June 1 - and throughout the finale broadcast airing Monday, June 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT – in several ways: via The Gamebench; on Twitter using the particular team's hashtag; via the show's Facebook page; and by text. Playing along on The Gamebench, viewers will also earn additional votes to cast and have a greater say in choosing the winning pair. The more viewers play, the more votes they earn to cast. Officially launching in lockstep with the series debut on Monday, viewers can now sign in to The Gamebench's desktop or mobile platforms to register for the series' complementary digital entertainment experience.

Designed and developed by Toronto's Jam3 in association with Discovery's digital group, The Gamebench offers a beautifully designed desktop and mobile experience featuring "Tool Up! Trivia" and "Extreme Challenges", along with episode extras, competitor tracking, cast info, leaderboard, previews, and more.

About BLOOD, SWEAT & TOOLS
From the producers of MASTERCHEF CANADA and CANADA'S WORST DRIVER comes the new series BLOOD, SWEAT & TOOLS, featuring a lively battle among five of Canada's most inept home renovating couples competing for a $50,000 cash prize. Airing Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT beginning April 13 on Discovery, the hilarious nine-episode season is filled with chaotic challenges that test domestic bliss. The five couples competing are Tyler and Danielle of Woodstock, Ont.; Nicole and Jake of Mission, B.C.; Fabian and Luayn of Teeterville, Ont.; Steve and Richelene of Winnipeg; and Jesse and Holly of Penetanguishene, Ont.

Set in the iconic cottage country of Northern Ontario, BLOOD, SWEAT & TOOLS features duos of hapless handypersons performing all manner of home renovation challenges, from installing toilets and outdoor showers, to building gazebos and repairing roofs. The teams work to impress three experts - Rob Koci of Canadian Contractor magazine, fourth-generation tradesman and carpenter, Helder Brum, and power tool expert Hillary Manion - with Do It Yourself (DIY) home repair projects in a bid to be named "Most Improved." The couples must perform these DIY tasks quickly and to exacting specifications. Then, following eight episodes of hammering it out to stay alive in the competition, the final decision is left up to Canada with viewers determining the winning couple LIVE during the season finale episode.

BLOOD, SWEAT & TOOLS is an original format series produced by Proper Television in association with Discovery Canada. The series is executive produced by Guy O'Sullivan and Jennifer Scott. Blair Ricard is the series producer. For Discovery, Stan Lipsey is Executive Producer, and Edwina Follows is Director of Commissioning and Production. Ken MacDonald is Vice-President of Programming, Discovery Networks.
