GE Lighting has been honored with a Gold Edison Award for its LightGrid™
Outdoor Wireless Control System, a groundbreaking solution for
street and roadway lights that allows remote operation and fixture
monitoring to save and manage energy. GE received the award,
acknowledging outstanding Energy Management and Conservation, at a gala
in New York City on April 23, 2015.

Different than GE’s
own Edison Awards, the Edison Awards have recognized and honored
some of the most innovative new products, services and business leaders
in the world since being founded in 1987. The
Edison Awards symbolize the persistence and excellence personified
by Thomas Edison, and are among the most prestigious accolades honoring
excellence in new product and service development, marketing,
human-centered design and innovation. Award winners represent "game
changing" products, services and excellence and leadership in innovation
around four criteria: Concept, Value, Delivery and Impact.
“GE is honored to receive this prestigious Gold Edison Award for
LightGrid technology, and we are thrilled and encouraged to be
recognized as a global leader in Energy Management and Conservation,”
said Rick Freeman, Global Product General Manager for Intelligent
Devices. “LightGrid offers countless benefits to municipalities, and is
the first step to harness the power of light to help cities operate
smarter and more efficiently. We are honored that the Edison Awards
judges recognized the value of this GE technology.”
Cities
including San Diego have already seen the benefits of LightGrid,
allowing for energy and maintenance savings in addition to more than
$250,000 annual savings with the installation of GE Evolve™ LED street
lights.
With GE Lighting’s central management software, LightGrid can report
energy usage and other operational data of street lights to a central
database. A Web-based interface linked to the lighting
controls allows authorized users to remotely visualize real-time
performance of their outdoor lighting system. GPS in the lighting
controls allows municipalities to instantly identify usage and
performance of street
lights in specific locations. Then, they can activate more precise
‘on/off’ and street light dimming schedules, particularly in low-traffic
areas and during the night. Additionally, the one-piece lighting control
simply connects to the external socket of the street light and doesn’t
require any internal fixture change.
