Kemper Corporation (NYSE: KMPR)
announced today that it acquired Alliance United Group in a cash
transaction valued at approximately $70 million. The parties closed the
transaction at the end of the day on Thursday, April 30, 2015.
Based in southern California, Alliance United will expand Kemper’s
private passenger nonstandard auto insurance presence in the state.
Alliance United expects its full year 2015 direct written premiums to
total more than $300 million.
“We are pleased that Alliance United is joining the Kemper family of
companies,” said Donald G. Southwell, Kemper’s Chairman, President and
Chief Executive Officer. “Alliance United fits nicely within our
framework, giving us geographic depth in the fast-growing California
nonstandard auto market, a market that we already know and serve well.
The Alliance United leadership team brings a proven track record of
profitable growth in the largest state we serve.”
Alliance United distributes its products through producers, and its
extensive presence in Southern California complements Kemper Specialty
California’s more Northern California base. Additionally, Alliance
United brings valuable expertise in serving the important and growing
Hispanic market.
“We welcome the Alliance United team, led by David Mandel, into our
Kemper Property & Casualty segment,” said Denise Lynch, Kemper’s
Property & Casualty Group Executive. “We value the expertise that the
Alliance United team brings and look forward to continuing to build our
presence as we serve the California market together.”
