MDU Resources Group (NYSE: MDU) today announced that Steven L. Bietz,
president and chief executive officer of its pipeline and energy
services business, has elected to retire effective July 17, 2015, after
a 34-year career with the company.
Bietz began his career in 1981 with the company’s utility business and
transferred to the pipeline business in 1985, where he held a number of
positions of increasing responsibility. He became president and CEO of
WBI Holdings, Inc. and WBI Energy, Inc. (collectively WBI) in March of
2006. Prior to that, he had been executive vice president and chief
operating officer since September 2002 and vice president-administration
and chief accounting officer since November 1999.
Under his leadership, WBI has grown to operate 3,800 miles of regulated
natural gas pipeline with over 1 bcf/day of system capacity and three
natural gas storage fields with 193 bcf of working storage capacity, as
well as 1,600 miles of non-regulated pipeline. He also was instrumental
in initiating WBI’s evolution from a dry gas transmission and storage
company to a multifaceted energy services and midstream business. That
growth includes a 50 percent ownership of the Dakota Prairie refinery,
the first greenfield refinery completed in the U.S. since 1976, which
began operating on May 4, 2015.
“We thank Steve for his years of service and his dedication to the
company, and wish him the best in retirement,” said David L. Goodin,
president and CEO of MDU Resources Group.
