MONTREAL, June 22, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - National Bank is pleased to announce this year's winners of its Women in Financial Markets Scholarship, now in its sixth year. At a reception to honour the recipients, Ricardo Pascoe, Executive Vice-President – Financial Markets, joined by members of the Financial Markets Management Committee, awarded a scholarship in the amount of $10,000 each to three students who have demonstrated a strong interest in pursuing a career in the financial markets.

The winners of this year's scholarships are currently enrolled in a post graduate program at a Canadian university:

  • Justine Bergeron is currently enrolled in the Master of Finance at HEC Montreal
  • Pascale Venne will be undertaking a Master of Mathematical Finance at the University of Toronto
  • Sarah Brown will be undertaking a Master of Business Administration at the Ivey Business School, Western University

"The caliber of talented women applying for our scholarship program has been impressive", said Mr. Pascoe.  "This program supports the development of bright and ambitious women and demonstrates National Bank's dedication to promoting strong women leaders in the Canadian capital markets.  We are fortunate to be able to attract exceptional candidates with both intellectual talent and personal depth."

The scholarship program derives its strength not only from the financial support it offers, but also from the internship and mentorship opportunities that help candidates familiarise themselves with the industry and with National Bank.

"The recipients will be paired with a Senior Mentor from our Financial Markets group," said program executive sponsor Susan Monteith, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Client Strategy and People Development.  "This approach ensures a link between the recipient and the Bank throughout their studies."  Scholarship recipients will also be offered internship opportunities within the organization.

National Bank is committed to diversity and increasing the representation of women throughout the organization, including the Financial Markets division. With 42% of management positions and 44% of director positions held by women, National Bank is an industry leader in the representation of women in management roles.
