Panel addresses technology and the future of aging in America
Financial Engines (NASDAQ:FNGN), America’s largest independent
registered investment advisor1, today announced that its
president and chief executive officer Lawrence Raffone served as a
panelist for the White House Conference on Aging, which took place on
Monday, July 13th, 2015.
The panel addressed Technology and the Future of Aging, and was
moderated by Jeff Zients, Director of the National Economic Council and
Assistant to the President for Economic Policy. Other panelists included
Susannah Fox, Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services; Rachel Holt, Regional General Manager, East Coast,
at Uber; Tom Parkinson, Senior Vice President & Chief Technology
Officer, at Peapod LLC; Charles Wallace, Associate Professor, Computer
Science, at Michigan Technological University; and Donna Levin,
Co-Founder & VP, Policy, CSR and Global Workplace Solutions, at
Care.com. United States Secretary of Labor Tom Perez delivered the
closing remarks.
The panel explored how older Americans might use new technologies, but
also how companies can work with older people to deliver products and
services that seniors will want to use in their daily lives. Financial
Engines president and CEO Lawrence Raffone explained that the company is
seeing elders embrace technology that supplements, rather than replaces,
services provided by people.
“We’re proud to be working with the administration to highlight issues
of interest to older Americans, including how technology can impact
long-term financial security,” said Raffone. “Financial Engines was
founded in 1996 with the purpose of providing working Americans access
to high-quality retirement help through innovative technology. Today,
our mission remains the same. We are committed to helping millions of
employees achieve a rewarding retirement.”
The White House Conference on Aging has been held once a decade,
beginning in 1961 and is designed to help chart the course of aging
policy. The 2015 Conference focused on four areas: ensuring retirement
security; promoting healthy aging; providing long-term services and
supports; and protecting older Americans from financial exploitation,
abuse, and neglect. Additional information on Conference activities can
be found at whitehouseconferenceonaging.gov.
