Vancouver, British Columbia / TheNewswire / July 16, 2015 - LITE ACCESS TECHNOLOGIES INC. (the "Company") (CSE: LTE, Pink Sheets: LTCCF) is pleased to announce that DSG Communications (DSG) has been awarded a design and build contract for the town of Waterton, Alberta worth approximately $500,000.
As per the news release announced on June 22, 2015 Lite Access Technologies has entered into a Letter of Intent (LOI) to acquire all the outstanding shares of DSG Communications.
Using Lite Access' proprietary micro-trench and air blown fibre technologies, DSG Communications is currently completing the first phase of a three phase fibre optic network build that will provide the Waterton downtown business core with the most advanced high-speed connectivity solution available today.
Dylan Griffiths, CEO of DSG states: "This project further demonstrates the willingness of individual communities and municipalities to take the proactive steps necessary to ensure that their businesses and residents have the high speed connectivity they require and deserve. When completed, this build will provide the Town of Waterton with a cost effective and future-proof broadband solution for many years to come. We are working closely with the Waterton Community Broadband Network (WCBN) to ensure that this build allows for future phases of deployment that will include connectivity to residential neighbourhoods as well as enhance the current WIFI infrastructure needed to support the increasing number of people that visit the town each year."
The Town of Waterton is surrounded by Waterton Lakes National Park, a Parks Canada National Park and World Heritage Site. Nestled in the Southern Alberta Rocky Mountains over 400,000 people visit the park and town annually.
About Waterton Community Broadband Network (WCBN)
The Waterton Community Broadband Network is a community driven initiative to improve the communication infrastructure in the park through the deployment of state of the art fiber optic and wifi network infrastructure for visitors, residents and business operators.
About the "Fibre to the Premise" and "Fibre to the Home" industry
Fibre to the Premise (FTTX) and Fibre to the Home (FTTH), sometimes referred to as "the last mile", is the delivery of a communications signal over optical fibre from the operator's switching equipment all the way to a home or business, thereby replacing existing copper infrastructure such as telephone wires or coaxial cable. FTTX is a rapidly growing method of providing vastly higher bandwidth to consumers and businesses, and thereby enabling more robust video, internet and voice services.
Billions of dollars are being spent to upgrade communications systems and the demand for the Fibre-Optic cable manufacturing and deployment industry has surged as downstream customers upgrade infrastructure that was delayed during the recession. Wireless carriers are expanding their fiber-optic cable networks as more carriers upgrade their networks and consumers increasingly demand high-speed internet on their mobile phones, necessitating more fiber-optic cable purchases.
Communications Internet speed (or lack of) has been described by some industry experts as the single greatest economic issue facing North America today, and an ever increasing demand for bandwidth caused by streaming video and music services, smartphone usage, and consumers and businesses using cloud based and real time communication services has created a surge in investment into last mile infrastructure by internet service providers, businesses, government and educational institutions. The Fiber to the Home Council Americas states that "Fiber-enabled applications and solutions have the potential to create value for service providers and their customers, promote economic development and enhance quality of life for communities".
