CAE awarded airline training solution contracts valued at more than C$115 million

T.CAE

MONTREAL, CANADA--(Marketwired - July 22, 2015) - CAE (NYSE:CAE)(TSX:CAE) announced today a series of training solution contracts with airlines valued at more than C$115 million. The diversity of these agreements highlights the span of CAE's full range of training programs that cover the entire career life cycle of professional pilots, from cadet to captain. They include:

  • A Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) First Officer Program extension with Japan Airlines for the training of 100 more cadets
  • An exclusive five-year contract with Aurora Airlines for A319 pilot type-rating training
  • One Airbus A350 full-flight simulator (FFS) to Asiana Airlines
  • One Boeing 787-8 FFS to Hainan Airlines
  • One Airbus A330 FFS to an undisclosed North American airline
  • One Bombardier CRJ900NG FFS to an undisclosed North American airline
  • Simulator update services

"The training solutions marketplace is competitive, and these recent wins are testament to the high value we place on customer relationships and to the consistency of our high-quality execution," said Nick Leontidis, CAE's Group President, Civil Aviation Training Solutions. "CAE is the only company to offer such a broad range of end-to-end solutions on a global scale, from cadet to type-rating training and crew sourcing. We are privileged to extend our customer relationships with these agreements and we are committed to supporting our partners' training needs long into the future."

The full-flight simulators (FFSs) are at list prices, which include the value of OEM aircraft-specific data, parts and equipment (DP&E), normally procured by CAE in the manufacture of its simulators. In the case of these contracts, some customers are providing part of the OEM content.

Japan Airlines: Multi-crew Pilot License (MPL) First Officer training

CAE and Japan Airlines (JAL) have agreed to extend the Japan Airlines Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL) First Officer Program. Under the new agreement, a further 100 cadets will be selected to begin MPL training for Japan Airlines (JAL) over the next few years.

"Following our historic joint venture, we are honored to continue growing our relationship with our partners at Japan Airlines (JAL). In addition to providing type-rating training for JAL's pilots, we are pleased to announce the addition of a further 100 aspiring pilots to the MPL First Officer program, following the success of the initial phase," said Nick Leontidis.

In 2013, Japan Airlines selected CAE as its partner of choice for a tailored MPL training program. Since launch, 100 cadets have been selected and are undergoing their training as First Officers for Japan Airlines. The first cadets are scheduled to complete the program in Phoenix in December of this year. The renewal of this contract brings the total of cadets enrolled in this innovative program to 200. MPL is the most advanced training and licensing methodology used to develop ab initio students directly into First Officers within a specific commercial airline environment. Today, over 1,000 MPL graduates are flying successfully with their airlines across Asia and Europe.

Aurora Airlines: A319 Pilot Training

Aurora Airlines has selected CAE for the provision of A319 training services under an exclusive five-year agreement. Pilots began their training in Gimpo city, Korea this month, and a total of 1,000 training hours are expected to be completed in the first year.

The CAE 7000Series FFS will be equipped with the latest CAE Tropos 6000XR visual system and will be ready-for-training in April 2016. Hainan Airlines has been a customer of CAE since 2007.
