International and domestic money transfer payouts expand to ELTA – Hellenic Post

The Western Union Company, a leader in global payment services, today announced Agent ELTA - Hellenic Post, Greece’s Postal Authority, has activated its entire network – expanding Western Union’s retail cash payout of international and domestic money transfers to more than 1500* Agent locations across Greece.

Western Union Money Transfer® transactions payable in Euros via Western Union’s Agent retail network are not subject to Greek capital controls.

ELTA’s 920 Post offices and outlets situated across Greece’s nine geographic regions: Macedonia, Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Epirus, the Aegean Islands (including the Dodecanese and Cyclades), Thrace, Crete, Attica and the Ionian Islands are now paying out Western Union® international and domestic transactions.

Western Union Agent - WorldBridge Payment Institution (Paylink®) with presence in major city centers and extended operating hours has expanded its payment locations to 650 out of 1000 following activation a week ago.

“Moving money into Greece from around the globe and facilitating cash payouts across Greece in the current landscape is a major gain for our customers as well as the Greek economy,” said Giovanni Angelini, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Europe at Western Union.

“As a business centered on the needs of our customers – our priority is to restore services fully in Greece and continue with our broader purpose of moving money connecting families, communities and acting as an economic enabler around the globe,” he said.

Western Union’s ability to move with speed in collaboration with its Agent network stems from its unique cross-border platform – which facilitates movement of funds into Greece from more than 200 countries and territories via multiple channels and multiple originating currencies. Across its brands the company has over 500,000 retail agent locations across the world – from leading retailers to banks, more than 100,000 ATMs and kiosks, over 90 active Account Based Money Transfer banks, bank payout in more than 50 countries and wu.com sites in 29 countries.

Western Union also recently activated in-bound transfers directly into Greek bank accounts from family or loved ones from 30 countries across North America, Europe, CIS and Asia Pacific.

The activation of Western Union international and domestic transfers follows a new law issued by the Greek government, allowing money transfer operators to resume intra as well as in-bound transactions under special conditions.
