CHICAGO, Aug. 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MSDSonline, the leading provider of cloud environmental, health and safety (EHS) solutions, will share recent updates on OSHA's alignment to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) with attendees at the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) 2015 National Conference. Chuck Haling, MSDSonline vice president of sales and one of the industry's top GHS experts, will provide a unique perspective on the changes EHS professionals can expect to see with the GHS transition as he examines the implementation progress.
OSHA aligned its Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) with GHS, a model system developed by the United Nations, to improve hazardous chemical communication with more consistent classification of associated dangers. A transition period was set in place with a series of phased compliance deadlines to be followed by the millions of hazardous chemical manufacturers, distributors and end-users (or employers) covered by the standard. During the presentation, GHS: 2 Deadlines Hit in 2015. Are You Ready?, Haling will review the HazCom Standard, the GHS updates and provide actionable steps employers can take to ensure full compliance. The presentation will be held Monday, August 31 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. MT in the Falcon meeting room at the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"Hazardous chemical exposure is one of the most serious dangers facing employees today," said Haling. "The time has come for employers to more actively manage the GHS transition within their facilities and ensure that everyone working with hazardous chemicals understands the changes to the HazCom Standard. With less than a year left until the final GHS-implementation deadline, employers can no longer afford to wait to address any confusion around the transition."
While the recent HazCom Standard enforcement directive provided some clarity on OSHA's interpretation of its revised HazCom Standard, industry professionals still have questions about many of the changes associated with the GHS alignment. In addition to providing a general overview of the GHS changes to the HazCom Standard, Haling will provide an outlook on the transition progress.
