MORRISVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA--(Marketwired - Sept. 8, 2015) - The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation & Learning (INACSL) and CAE Healthcare today announced a new fellowship program for healthcare faculties offering a certificate in the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation(SM). The INACSL - CAE Healthcare Simulation Fellowship is a collaborative effort to increase the availability of immersive high-quality, simulation-based education.
"We are pleased to strengthen our ties with INACSL, a leading organization that pioneered the development of evidence-based standards for simulation education in nursing," said Dr. Robert Amyot, President of CAE Healthcare. "The standards are increasingly accepted and adopted. The INACSL - CAE Healthcare Simulation Fellowship program represents a natural progression in our efforts to support faculty and institutions as they implement simulation-based training."
In 2014, the U.S. National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) released a groundbreaking longitudinal study on the effectiveness of simulation training in pre-licensure nursing programs. Among other findings, the study reported that nursing students who spent up to 50 percent of clinical hours in high-quality simulation, using the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation and conducted by trained facilitators, were as well-prepared for professional practice as those whose experiences were drawn from traditional clinical practice. "INACSL is excited to collaborate with CAE Healthcare in offering the INACSL - CAE Simulation Fellowship. With the release of the NCSBN Simulation Study results in 2014 and more nursing programs expanding their use of simulation, the importance of demonstrating mastery in simulation techniques has become more important than ever before. With the creation of the fellowship, professionals implementing simulation in their teaching methodology will have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of proper simulation techniques," said INACSL 2015-17 President Teresa Gore, PhD, DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, CHSE-A.
The fellowship will target professional simulation instructors with a comprehensive, immersion experience and a focused mentorship program over the course of 8 to 12 months. The curriculum includes two course modules. Each module consists of a webinar and a two-day face-to-face, hands-on course. The fellowship will incorporate coursework from the CAE Healthcare Essentials of Simulation (EOS) training course and the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation. At the completion of the fellowship, participants will be able to demonstrate mastery of the INACSL Standards of Best Practice: Simulation and successfully incorporate them into their simulations. The course will be offered in the U.S. and the U.K. in the fall of 2015, and will eventually be offered in other countries.
