To address Dallas teens on Saturday at YouthSpark Live event.
DALLAS — Oct. 1, 2015 — Microsoft Corp. will join with The Confidence Group in Dallas, Texas, to host YouthSpark Live, a special daylong event where middle and high school students from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area will get to learn about computer science — and have fun doing it. On Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Irving Convention Center will be home to technical training, educational sessions, empowerment seminars, gaming lessons, music and entertainment, and giveaways. Best of all it's free!
The day will start with author, speaker and entrepreneur Stedman Graham delivering a keynote address to the young people. Stedman's mission is to transform kids from followers into leaders through clear understanding of their identity, and change the way they think and learn. Stedman delivers his identity leadership message throughout the country and globally to high schools, colleges, universities, corporations and community groups. He says that "many of us spend years trying to find out who we are, and sadly too many of us never do. If we fail to define ourselves, we risk letting others define us by our race, gender and background. We buy into labels that keep us in a box, and as a result of those limitations never reach or realize our greatest potential."
Microsoft YouthSpark is a global initiative to increase access for all youth to learn computer science, empowering them to achieve more for themselves, their families and their communities. Three years ago, Microsoft launched YouthSpark, a cross-company initiative that created educational, employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for more than 300 million youth around the world. Over the next three years, Microsoft will invest $75 million in community programs to increase access to computer science education for all youth, especially for those from under-represented backgrounds, and build greater diversity into the tech talent pipeline.
