United Technologies Recognized as World Leader for Action on Climate Change

UTC included on prestigious Climate "A" List by the CDP

FARMINGTON, Conn., Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) has been recognized as a global leader for its actions and performance in response to climate change with a position on The Climate "A" List compiled by the CDP.

The prestigious list highlights 113 companies selected from the nearly 2,000 that submitted environmental performance data and climate change strategies to CDP for independent assessment.

Companies that appear on The Climate "A" List are among the top 5 percent of corporations responding to CDP's climate change questionnaire. The CDP is recognizing UTC and others for their actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change over the last year.

"As a responsible corporate citizen, UTC has long worked to maximize the environmental technologies in our products, while minimizing the environmental footprint of our operations and supply chain," said UTC Chief Sustainability Officer John Mandyck. "We appreciate the CDP's recognition of our efforts as a corporate leader in mitigating climate change."

The process of integrating sustainability into UTC's business strategy began in 1988 when the company first began reporting on factory energy reductions. Since then, UTC's program has evolved into a comprehensive strategy that includes absolute annual reductions in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. The company has been an outspoken advocate for energy efficient building standards and regulations.

In addition, UTC continues to invest aggressively to develop game-changing products that are dependable and energy efficient, including its Otis elevators; Carrier heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems; UTC Aerospace Systems nacelle technology; and Pratt & Whitney's new Geared Turbofan jet engine that reduces fuel burn by up to 16 percent, cuts emissions by up to 50 percent and lowers noise by up to 75 percent.

"We congratulate the 'A List' companies that are illuminating the path to a low carbon future through their climate leadership," said CDP executive chairman and co-founder Paul Dickinson.

"The momentum of business action on climate change suggests we are reaching a tipping point where companies are poised to achieve their full potential. They need ambitious policy at both a national and international level that will support them in this regard and will catalyze participation from industry at scale," Dickinson said. The full report is available on the CDP website.
