SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC), a global leader in computing and connectivity solutions, today announced that E4 Computer Engineering, a leading supplier of customized solutions for high performance computing and enterprise data centers, is collaborating with AppliedMicro on X-Gene platforms based on ARMv8-A architecture.
E4 manufactures and markets two types of systems based on the X-Gene Server-on-a-Chip® solution: a 1U single socket solution and a 2U single socket, both with support for dual NVIDIA GPUs, delivering leading-edge performance and power-efficiency suitable for cost-effective scale-out high-performance computing (HPC) deployments.
In addition to the current production, EMEA customers that are interested in testing the upgraded solutions supporting AppliedMicro's X-Gene 2 processor SoCs, are now able to refer to E4 to request evaluation systems to test their applications.
The jointly engineered ARKA platforms couple the performance and power-efficiency of X-Gene and are designed to fit accelerators for intensive HPC workloads.
"Our collaboration with E4 Computer Engineering showcases our commitment to the European market and the market demand for X-Gene-based platform solutions. We've been long partners of E4 Computer Engineering and are confident the company will help bring to the European HPC and enterprise markets high performance, low power and cost-effective offerings," said Kumar Sankaran, associate vice president of AppliedMicro.
"We are delighted of this collaboration with AppliedMicro, as it shows our joint commitment to delivering X-Gene-based solutions for the scientific community," said Piero Altoè, VP research & innovation, E4 Computer Engineering. "We also are confident that the demand for evaluation platforms based on X-Gene 2 will increase and we foresee plans to manufacture the product in volume."
Said Dr. Andrea Bartolini, Post-Doctoral Researcher, University of Bologna, "We are working together with E4 to increase the energy-efficiency of the ARKA family of servers by deploying a novel energy-aware software stack. 64-bit ARMv8 multicore processors coupled with powerful GPUs are very promising platforms for next-generation green supercomputers. Our work is to provide the users tools to make the most energy-efficient use of these novel architectures."
The ARKA series, featuring X-Gene's ARMv8-A custom microarchitecture and InfiniBand, will be demonstrated live at SC15 Austin, TX in the following booths: AppliedMicro (No. 3103) E4 Computer Engineering (No. 189) and ARM (No. 2015).
