PG&E Declares Support for Landmark Global Climate Agreement in Paris

PCG

PG&E Corporation released the following statement today from Chairman, CEO and President Tony Earley regarding the global climate agreement reached over the weekend in Paris. Earley and three other leaders from PG&E joined the California delegation in Paris and participated in several events surrounding the climate talks.

“The Paris agreement is a major milestone in orchestrating a global response to the climate challenge. It sends a clear signal to business that policy makers around the world are committed to fostering a low-carbon economy. We applaud the leadership that U.S. negotiators brought to the process, with the support of Governor Brown and the California delegation.

“As states and nations get down to the business of delivering on their commitments, we believe California’s leadership will continue to offer valuable lessons. California and its utilities have shown that, working together, it’s possible to invest in clean energy while growing the economy at the same time—a story PG&E was proud to highlight through our participation at various events surrounding the Paris talks.

“California’s energy utilities have played a fundamental role in the state’s clean-energy progress for decades—including investing in renewables, energy efficiency and gas-leak detection tools to reduce methane emissions. As we look to the challenges ahead, utilities like PG&E are uniquely positioned to help deploy low-carbon technologies on the scale that’s needed to make a real difference to combat climate change.

“Not only can utilities deliver increasingly clean energy to customers, we can enable customers to pursue their own low-carbon options as well—like rooftop solar and electric vehicles. The grid of the future will be a Grid of ThingsTM that integrates all of the new energy technologies and creates exponentially more value for everyone.”
