Partnership with vocational school means opportunity for local
students
Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services (AMES) was recently named
Employer of the Month by Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career
Development for the company's investment in training students for
careers in aviation.
"With all the support that AMES gives to this program through donations,
working with getting our students internships, working with Ohio Means
Jobs and veterans, and along with being a strong influence in the
community and surrounding areas, it was an absolute, overwhelming
decision on selecting AMES," said David L. Angus, aviation instructor at
the Laurel Oaks Career Campus in Wilmington, Ohio.
AMES also works with Southern State Community College's adult aviation
program, as well as supporting test preparation classes for those who
are ready to test for their civilian FAA license, such as veterans.
"Trained aviation professionals are currently in high demand in our
industry," said AMES President Brady Templeton. "We're working hard to
recruit enough people for all the licensed technician jobs we have, but
there's a shortage of qualified applicants right now, not just here but
globally."
AMES has over a hundred experience technician and entry level jobs
currently open, and expects to have more in coming years. The company
recruits candidates via the internet, recruitment firms, military job
fairs, aviation industry events, and through employee referrals.
Fortunately, a vocational education like the one available at Laurel
Oaks qualifies students for many of these positions.
"There's a real opportunity here for young men and women," continued
Templeton, "to graduate from vocational high school with their General
and Airframe License, get started immediately on a great career in their
area. With nine (9) more months of training, they can obtain a
Powerplant License as well. At this point they are well on their way to
completing an Associate’s Degree program if they choose to continue with
college courses and all of this can be accomplished here in the local
area."
