ST. GEORGE, Utah, Jan. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyWest, Inc., (NASDAQ: SKYW) ("SkyWest") today reported 166,536 block hours in December 2015, compared to 185,491 block hours in December 2014, a decrease of 18,955, or 10.2%. The net decrease was consistent with SkyWest's fleet transition plan to improve the mix of aircraft in its fleet by adding new dual class aircraft to its fleet, while reducing its 50-seat and 30-seat aircraft.
The year-over-year net change was primarily driven by approximately 8,600 additional block hours from its incremental 76-seat E175 aircraft and a decrease of approximately 27,200 block hours from fewer 50-seat jet (CRJ200s and ERJ135s/145s) and 30-seat turboprop (EMB-120) aircraft.
In December 2015, SkyWest's dual class aircraft (CRJ700s, CRJ900s and E175s) represented approximately 42% of SkyWest's total block hour production for the month compared to approximately 33% for the month of December 2014.
SkyWest reported 2,074,804 block hours for year-to-date December 2015, compared to 2,275,560 block hours year-to-date December 2014, a decrease of 200,756, or 8.8%. This net change was primarily driven by approximately 103,000 additional block hours from SkyWest's E175 aircraft and a decrease of approximately 293,000 block hours from fewer 50-seat jet and 30-seat turboprop aircraft.
SkyWest had 96,315 departures in December 2015 compared to 107,112 in December 2014, a decrease of 10,797, or 10.1%. SkyWest generated 2.90 billion available seat miles (ASMs) for December 2015, compared to 3.13 billion ASMs for December 2014, or a 7.4% decrease.
